Joanie Mahoney was appointed President at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF) in November 2020. Prior to ESF, Joanie served 11 years as County Executive for Onondaga County where she oversaw a county government which served 460,000 residents. During her tenure as County Executive, Joanie made diversity and equity major tenets of her administration and created policies in county government to diversify the county workforce. By 2018, her last year in office, 30% of the 500 people hired that year were members of minority groups. Before her elective office, Joanie worked as an attorney both in private practice with the Harris Beach law firm and for five years as a criminal prosecutor in the Onondaga County District Attorney's Office. Joanie serves as chair of the New York State Thruway Authority and has served on several boards, including the Syracuse chapter of NAACP for several years. Ms. Mahoney received her bachelor of science degree from Syracuse University's School of Management and her juris doctor from S.U.'s College of Law. She and her husband Marc Overdyk have 4 adult sons and live in Dewitt, NY.
