Kate Houck

Kate Houck is the Executive Director of David’s Refuge, a CNY-based organization providing respite, resources and support to parents and guardians of children with special needs or those with life threatening illness. Kate joined the David’s Refuge team in January 2015 after a 10-year career working in various leadership roles with the Central and Western NY chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Throughout her career, Kate has enjoyed the responsibility of leading creative and hard-working teams;and watching the magic transpire when a mission is connected to local leaders who care. The impact can be felt as it spreads across our community. In her time as leader of David’s Refuge, the company has been recognized as Best Places to Work in CNY for the past 5 years! In addition, during her tenure, and with the support of an amazing team and community, David’s Refuge has exceeded aggressive yearly development goals and experienced over 500% financial and service growth. Her greatest joy comes from her family. Kate is the proud Mama to Nathan and Leah who are 15 and 13 years old. She and her husband Paul have been married for 17 years after meeting at SUNY Cortland where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Communications. Family and friends are a top priority along with a passion for campfires, nature, exercise, gardening and healthy living. Her favorite quote is a verse from a Carol King song, You're Beautiful. It says, "You've got to get up every morning with a smile on your face and show the world all the love in your heart."
