Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer at Onondaga County

Monica Williams is the Chief Diversity Officer for Onondaga County’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion (DEI). As the Chief Diversity Officer, Monica oversees the divisions of Human Rights, Title VI and ADA compliancy, oversight of our local Justice Center Jail, and the Minority Women Business Enterprise (MWBE). She also develops comprehensive strategies to establish a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment. She assists with the recruitment, hiring, and retention of a talented workforce and facilitates Diversity and Inclusion training program(s) for county government.  Before becoming Chief Diversity Officer, Monica served as an Onondaga County Legislator for the 16th District from 2007 to 2019. She served on the Ways N Means, Health, and Public Safety Committees. She has also worked as the Administrative Organizer for 1199 SEIU for over 10 years, negotiating contracts, and empowering members with the knowledge of their rights as union members, and helping them transform their workplace into a more inclusive environment. Whether through government, labor, or community service, Monica continues to proudly serve her hometown of Syracuse (NY).
